I am trying to get back into scrapbooking. I have so many photos and stories that I need to catch up on. To help I have found a new group Stick it Down who provides challenges and has given me that motivation to jump back into the rhythm. I used their May Single Page Sketch to create this layout of what life looks like for my teenager right now.
I used their sketch found here to create sections of this pie chart representing things she loves: basketball, her music, art, friends and family, "I'm so bored" aka chores and school, and sleeping.
For this page I used a combination of papers: Close to My Heart school collection (for the base page, the black hearts, and the art section) I used Doodlebug "Slamdunk" 6x6 paper pad for the basketball portion and finally Recollections "Rad" collection for the music tapes, the sleeping eyes, and the "I'm So Bored" paper.
For the embellishments I used Making Memories alpha block letters for "A-R-T" and stamps by Kindred Stamps for the mandalla and the art splotches. I used starburst stickers from a Recollection sticker pack at Michaels.
Here I added some Simple Stories emoji stickers from their Emoji collection, some enamel dots, and finally some Thickers with silver striped letters for the title "Taryn at 14"
To finish off the page I hand doodled inside the frame with a silver Gelly Roll pen. Then I added some Simple Stories hearts and Tim Holtz word stickers.
This was a fun page and a great way to show off what life for my teen is like. I am pretty happy with how it turned out! I do want to show the "real" side of scrapbooking as I tried to add paint and mixed media to the all black background but it seemed like it just washed things out. Not every layout comes together super quick and simple! Here was my first attempt:
After some thinking it seemed to washed out and didn't make sense. So I cut the pie out and made a frame from the black and placed the frame on the grid paper (you can see some of the dots and paint still on the frame and I like that touch). I LOVE grid paper for pages, it's clean and simple and allows for a lot of creativity!
