For this months Single Page Sketch on Stick it Down I decided to really think out side of the usual. As soon as I saw the sketch I was slightly confused by what I was going to do, then I saw a bag of 2018 confetti and "ta da" so here is my take on the sketch you can find here on the Stick it Down blog.
For this layout I started with the Simple Stories "Congrats Grad" paper pack, I didn't like the bottom where it said "way to go" (I thought it would be too clashy with the giant 2018) so I tore it off. I love to tear my paper and have that rough edge, I fall back on that technique a lot. It makes me look "whimsical and creative" while still being a straight arrow ;) I used another 12x12 paper with stars and dots for the top but it felt too busy so I tore that one too and added my go to grid paper in the center.
I used a very basic font on my Silhouette and created the "2018" and the shadow and cut them from a complimentary glitter paper from The Paper Studio Glitter paper pad. I love this paper and use it a lot, it does not flake, it is easy to cut or punch, and it adds just enough shimmer for me!
Instead of using the banner as the sketch shows, since my inspiration was a packet of confetti I decided to make a shaker banner. I used the bottom of my graph paper and drew out an outline and then used my fuse tool to trace the banner. I stuffed it with some micro beads, congrats / grad confetti, seed beads, and glitter, and adhered that over the top of the "2018."
My daughter was promoted with a high GPA and they provided her a cord to honor her status and I wanted to incorporate that into the page so I took some similar colored embroidery floss, braided it and frazzled the ends beyond the knots and voila. I wrapped and used micro glue dots to adhere this to the number 1. I love this ultra personal touch on the page!
Finally, because I cannot just leave a page "flat" I punched some stars from the glitter paper and adhered them with foam dots and found a stash of rhinestones to make the top of the page more interesting.
I am loving that I am keeping up with current events and getting the stories down when they are fresh versus trying to catch up the past stories. I will get there, eventually, but this is really keeping me happy!
Thanks for stopping by!
